A popular brand of paintball guns called “ashland” have gone from popularity to controversy in recent months.
A new survey released by the Ashland Police Department shows a significant increase in paintball incidents, but the department is quick to note that the increase was not statistically significant.
“We’re still waiting to see the results of this survey.
We have no statistics to suggest paintballers are more likely to commit crimes with paintballs, but we do believe the paintball hobby is becoming more dangerous,” Ashland police spokesperson Shmuel Shtein said.
Shtein also said that “ashlands” have not led to any serious injuries.
In an interview with CNN, Ashland Deputy Police Chief Matthew Roper acknowledged that the department had received several complaints about paintball in the past few months.
“A few months ago, the number of complaints and the number that were reported to us were way below what we would expect,” Roper said.
Roper also acknowledged that there are “some minor safety concerns with the paintballs” but noted that the paint balls are used in “limited quantities.”
In an attempt to calm fears over the paint ball, Ashlands Chief Executive Officer Josh Smith sent a letter to the local community on June 3 warning of paintballs in the Ashlands community and warning people to be careful about getting into paintball games.
He also called on residents to wear masks and refrain from getting into any kind of paint ball activity.
Ashland has seen an increase in incidents in recent weeks, according to Ashland’s Police Department.
While paintball is a legal sport, many cities have restrictions on paintball activity, with cities like Los Angeles and New York limiting the number and the locations of paint balls in their communities.
As a result, some cities have banned paintball from public parks, as well as restricting the number or the locations to which paintballs can be brought.
But Roper, the Ashlanders Police Chief, believes that paintball and other recreational activities like paintball can become dangerous for some paintball players.
“If someone gets hurt or gets hurt badly, it could be very bad for their physical health, and we don’t want to be the one that has to pay the bills,” Ropers told CNN.
The popularity of paint-ball guns and the fear that people may be getting into it has also contributed to the increased incidents.
In February, the New York City Police Department banned paintballs from the city’s parks, with the goal of decreasing the number, the location, and the frequency of paint bombs being dropped.
New York Police Commissioner Ray Kelly, a proponent of paint guns, told reporters that the ban has helped to reduce the number.
“The most dangerous thing is to be reckless,” Kelly said.
“That’s the most dangerous activity we can have.”
However, according the FBI, the National Incident-Based Reporting System (NIBRS), paintball has never caused a death or injury.
